In case you want to buy a book about military anything and recoil at the price, give scribd a chance. Scribd has gazillions of books which might interest you available, and for free (free books are categorised as "Documents"). There are also many historical documents.
Consider this, for example.
There's also much history and hardware stuff, of course.

Reading some of that book made me really depressed. I wonder what the world would be like had we stayed out of WW1. :/
