Some analysts argue that there isn't much functional difference between current generation Russian and NATO weapons. This is largely due to the rapid rate of electronics development in Russia as a result of the technology being available commercially, off the shelf. The variety of systems available as a result of the Russian development system complicates our countermeasures process also.
I've always respected Soviet/Russian ASMs. I believed that the opening days of a Soviet-NATO war would have been a very bad time to have been at sea on a warship.
