The question of how soon fires can get on target is a function of several things. Does military intelligence lead the fires cell or does the fires cell prioritize what information military intelligence gives.

I can speak professionally from personal experience that if fire weaver were to be the catalyst that erases the compartmentalization between fire coordinators and "signals intelligence" cells 1 minute from request to engagement is already feasible today on a tactical scale perhaps even faster if one were to ignore civilian casualties and accept fratricide risk. If AI were to be integrated into this process it can better apply to engagements at the operational scale.

Fighting a peer to peer war without radios is near unfeasible baring extremely favorable terrain such as mountainous terrain. Signals Intelligence integration into fires would allow for redundancy in friendly force tracking that is near impossible to deceive in any wide spread practical form. (This I cannot further elaborate upon)

This may by why having a "space" force is so important nowadays as a purpose of degrading enemy C4ISR and intelligence gathering to remove the least path of least resistance when it comes to implementing systems such as fire weaver.

Electronic Warfare is going to be a bigger deal. Until autonomous AIs are mature, multiple mobile EW assets will have to rotate on and off to degrade enemy ability to communicate, ground medium to long range drones, and interrupt the call to fire sequence as much as possible.

Regarding how much infantry should armor up, we need to recognize the problem and approach it appropriately. Right now personnel suffer from a distinct problem of double or triple jeopardy. If one were to armor up as we do in the current war in terror no one no matter how fit will be able to evade higher level fires. If they were to armored with only soft armor, computerized firing scopes already give 100% hit probability to even those who have never held a gun before. The only problem is time to engagement which is something that is dramatically decreasing year by year. Guided munitions from rifle and automatic small arms will be also be a serious problem (EXACTO) what were near misses will be hits. These two technologies combined is fearsome. Imagine an MG42/MG3 with all the aforementioned features, how will you as an infantryman deal with that "low level" threat? In other words Fighting without plates is extremely dangerous. Current munitions such as m855a1 and m80a1 have largely surmounted the problem with small arms 1st hit kill/heavily wounded probability on a wide general issue scale. Counter defilade/enfilade weaponry is currently in its infancy but many countries are pursuing it. Current models are large such as the chinese ZH-05 and the XM-25 but is it a stretch to see it in a more compact form in as little as 5 years? So what does this mean? Cover is just concealment. Moving between concealment makes you vulnerable to small arms with guided scopes and munitions. And we have not even talked about mortars yet.....

This is why cyber, EW, and Signals Intelligence are becoming slowly popularized in both Russian and Western military theory of the late. Unless you at least degrade the higher level fire assets being coordinated by a fire weaver program to give your troops a chance you will run out of men one way or another.Zequenimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02293483708288475801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-386077914312449748.post-20198214682037831042018-07-08T18:55:03.177+02:002018-07-08T18:55:03.177+02:00Frankly, almost nothing in the Ukraine is surprisi...Frankly, almost nothing in the Ukraine is surprising considering the state of equipment, training, military history experiences, art and science.
The one thing that I did not expect was the Russian restraint. They could have won that war long ago, but Putin prefers to maintain a fiction of rebellion instead of invasion, even though few people would believe this fiction.
It's very Clausewitzian; warfare is a political action.S Ohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03359796414832859686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-386077914312449748.post-24675072969455498502018-07-08T18:13:47.456+02:002018-07-08T18:13:47.456+02:00I do not much of the credibility of the source (s...I do not much of the credibility of the source (speaking at west point, seem to have been on the Ukrainian front, so outside everyone bias toward their own idea, sound pretty okey). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14LMmBsDw-g

He seems to say Russian train in 10-10-10 : 10 minutes target aquisition, 10 minutes fire, 10 minute escape (with a 1/3 of artillery reading for immediate CRAM fire). So your estimation of Russian artillery speed seem pretty spot on.

What lesson learned do you take from the use of EW/UAV for artillery in Ukraine (jammer against electronic fuse of artillery, use of EW for targeting, constant surveillance of the airspace creating a similar interdiction as in ww2 daylight) : is it just Ukraine inadequacy or an army well prepared would be "fine" tactically? (faster artillery would counter it?).killyekfaelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01299593000975210668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-386077914312449748.post-4284529812018646152018-07-07T11:39:15.163+02:002018-07-07T11:39:15.163+02:00I suspect you are not getting comments on this pos...I suspect you are not getting comments on this post because the logic therein is inescapable.Chris Werbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12401452513193996839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-386077914312449748.post-5314013858771594472018-07-05T12:59:27.321+02:002018-07-05T12:59:27.321+02:00This arguably makes it even worse for the side whi...This arguably makes it even worse for the side which has given up DPICM, FASCAM for ethical reasons.

This system would appear to potentially integrate well with its fAC/JTAC equivalents and will presumably merge with them in due course.

https://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/forward-air-controller-uses-android-tablet-to-rapidly-o-1696705764Chris Werbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12401452513193996839noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-386077914312449748.post-4299668289596385072018-07-03T22:31:18.483+02:002018-07-03T22:31:18.483+02:00The only really quick indirect fires of the old sc...The only really quick indirect fires of the old school way were pre-planned fires.
