That's it. The new blogger interface sucks; it just ate a completed blog post of mine. Beware: Somehow the whole text was deleted and nothing happened when I did hit CTRL+Z, then I saw the "Save" blink (automatic save) and it was gone for good. So no blog post about military cryptology for today.

edit:
Here's how to go back to the old blogger interface:
- Login to your Blogger account.
- On the top right of the screen you will see Blogger Options. Click that, and from the dropdown, choose Old Blogger Interface.
Use a tool such as Notepad for making a rough sketch before committing anything to the internet
ReplyDeleteThat wouldn't have helped, since I was done with the text and already doing the html code formatting.
ReplyDeleteEven more, it's a problem that a web browser is a terrible text editor, and necessary functions (like auto-save or undo) easily gets lots in the interaction between browser and web site.
ReplyDeleteHave you thought about Wordpress Sven, I know a few people who have migrated and wished they had done it years ago.
ReplyDeleteThere is much more development effort and a larger community with Wordpress
Have you thought about migrating to Wordpress Sven?
ReplyDeleteI know a few people who have shifted over recently and wish they had done it years ago. Wordpress has a much more active development community.
Let me know if you need any help, have been using Wordpress for ages now
I HATE the new blogger interface. Too many things in places that are counterintuitive. The U/I on the new system is a disaster.
ReplyDeleteWordpress has annoyed me often enough when I attempted to make a comment on a wordpress-based blog.
ReplyDeletePLEASE HELP! My cancellation of the new interface doesn't hold, so I have to cancel it every time I use it. I can deal with that, but I now have a message popped up on my blogger saying that next month I will be forced to switch over to the new interface. Is there anything we can do to stop this? PLEASE HELP. Ruth
ReplyDeleteAnything can happen while you type : power failure, your foot disconnected the power cord by mistake, etc.
ReplyDeleteThis is why ALL longer texts should be written in a text editor (MS Word, OO Writer, there is ample choice in the matter) and saved frequently.
Also, you will be able to transmit your written thoughts to your sons even if the Internet ceases to exist "as we know it".
It's true that writing on an editing programme is a good idea, but that doesn't change the fact that Blogger's new interface is prone to losing text, images and even while posts. It is more or less non-functional on the iPad and iPhone, all you can do is a first draft and post it without any images. If you go back to edit the editor shows blank, and you lose what you wrote.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how we;ve all been "nudged" into taking on this interface...like WE had no say in it at all.
ReplyDeleteThe "new" interface SUCKS big time, and I would advise EVERYONE to comment to blogger/Google..A LOT and constantly until they change it all abck to WHAT WORKED.
The type fonts are wrong, you cannot move and resize photos properly, the colors for text are all over the spectrum, and yes, it all IS COUNTERINTUITIVE...period.
Thanks for posting this...great comments.
(and all very true)
I agree with you 100%. I was able to switch back but we're being forced into the new interface next month. I am so pissed. It's not at all easy to use.
ReplyDeleteMine was the old blogger format for the longest time and then I got the "we are switching next month" in March....now it's April and I'm officially switched, which I didn't technically ask for. I hate how Google, and all these other tech companies, keep trying to 'fix something' that isn't broke. Unless there is a major mess up, then, by all means, as a consumer fix it for me. But if there is NOTHING wrong, stop paying engineers to come up with useless 'upgrades' and just give money to a charity or shareholders.
ReplyDeleteAnother Google-mandated change I hate - GOOGLE INSTANT. Such an annoying feature!
I agree, it sucks. I'm struggling trying to get text and photos where I want them to go. It's taking me way longer. I was able to make a couple posts successfully, but the one I'm working on right now is totally f***ed up and it's driving me nuts!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Phew! I was in tears from the new interface.
ReplyDeleteSurely we bloggers ought to be able to make an official protest about this bloody thing (new blogger)! After all, presumably it needs us....or something...
ReplyDeleteLOL, how? Did you find a customer (user) service desk anywhere in blogger?
ReplyDeleteLast time I checked (when I attempted to change the design) I only found forums for users helping users somewhere.
I agree with all of the above. It's bloody awful, continuing with new posts that look like my previous ones is difficult, takes far longer (I'm thinking this will lead me to use my blog less in the long run) and at times I find the best if not the only solution is to delete a post and start again.
ReplyDeleteMy posts are simple, an image or two and some tidy text - if this is proving difficult I pity those people who create more elaborate posts.
If I knew who to complain to, I would. (link?)
I'm in total agreement that the New BVlogger interface sucks!!! I hope Google just lets those of us who like the old interface which is a better platform to just keep it.
ReplyDeleteWhy make people unhappy?:
It's just stupid.
Droid Blogger here. Using Opera its fast but if u.leave or.someone calls u entire post is.lost like save doesn't work, that was old interface too though. Now ON OPERA IT REFUSES TO LOAD AT ALL with new interface.
ReplyDeleteUsing Firefox for Droid its slow as hell but saved posts. New interface erases entire post if u try deleting a words too fast. So now I have no alternative browser to use for blog. Also buttons they provide are too small on screen. The old interface was graphic with bold colors, simple. That's why i.liked Blogger. Its so.childlike in its design i.could post on the road half asleep if necessary (Traveler). The bold colors worked excellent on the small phone screen.
I don't trust Blogger anymore. The old design was so...solid. And dependable. I have five blogs-three Blogger two WP and a facebook. I DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS.CRAP!!! (My keyboard sucks to now...can u tell?) Thanks for.this thread
It eats.posts in firefox if u use delete button too much. Erases everything. In opera it used to erase.if.someone called but now with new interface it simply won't.load at all.
ReplyDeleteThe old interface had bright bold colors easy to see on a smartphone screen and a simple almost childlike design, good for sleep deprived traveling writers.
I cannot work on three blogs with this new interface. I don't like using my.main browser but the new interface is so slow and so...frail, that i will have little choice. My new keyboard sucks on new phone adding to the complications. FRAIL is the perfect word. The old Blogger was strong and simple.
I'd be willing to.pay for an account if it was a.low fee if they would bring the old design back...
ReplyDeletesame.............
ReplyDeletei agree with you..........
let's talk to blogger center about this problem.........
WTF!
ReplyDeleteI woke up, SS&S, Made my coffee, sat down to start my daily 8+ hours of blogging so I can pay my bills etc...
What I saw was absolute horror.
I can not see all of my widgets (most of which are hidden by the "body" and or are completely overlapping each other making it absolutely impossible to arrange anything), text is disappearing, my ad space is completely gone from the template, unless it's somewhere I cant see...
I tried top clear all widgets and start FRESH... NOPE that didn't work either. all it did was pile them on top of each other and hide them behind OTHER widgets.
I cant stand this. My day is absolutely ruined. I can not use this interface at all. It's so terrible I am seriously considering closing blogs that I have had up for 5 years to move them somewhere else.
The feedback "form" is absolute bulls**t... you have to highlight and blackout items that your having broblems with, but it only lets you highlight and blackout things that THEY think in necessary.. you cant highlight things that YOU want to highlight...
I hate it!
I absolutely HATE this garbage.
What a waste of a day!
I happened to me too...it really Sucks!! i hate the new blogger interface. It's been months seen i am having problems with that! nowadays when i click on the "New Post" it shows half blank screen! I've tried everything to fix it but in vain :(, and today i wanted to switched to the old blogger interface but it seems like it is not available anymore. This is very discouraging for all those having these issues. I hope Google will troubleshoot this quickly.
DeleteIt's horrible- you can't place pics where you want them or resize them, what you see whilst editing bears no relation to what it will actually look like when published, videos are screwed, there's no option to view page once edited; you have to hunt for the post and then hover over empty space to find the option etc etc etc. It's so useless, and yet they force us to use it before even making sure the bugs have been fixed. Simply cannot understand the mentality of such a company.
ReplyDeletecan anyone help,On the new interface when putting up a new post, im looking to place a link to a youtube video and picassa picture slideshow, on the old layout it was easy as copying the embed link to the blog post, now when copying the embbed link to the post, on preview it shows just the link,,no pictures or video,,,can anyone help!!
ReplyDeleteThanks
Grab the "old embed code" from Youtube. You only need to check the box when you get the embed code there.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see others complaining about the horrible interface of Blogger. :)
ReplyDeleteThe handling of images is horrible.
I hate it too! I try to make new blog posts but my pictures end op on top of eachother or somewhere else. The text is never where its supposed to be and text is made so it goes around the image, not under it! The preview is always diffrent from the "original" that i write on. Can someone please help me??? I HATE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteI learned to anticipate most troubles. It's become routine to check the formatting after publication and edit the blog post formatting with some corrections.
DeleteIt also helps against typos. ;)
In worst case (such as with your text/image problem) I edit the source code. luckily, I learned to code in html years ago and this helps a lot here.
