That was slightly below cutting edge back in '45; tube-based electric computer did exist, but were apparently not preferred for the harsh conditions on a warship.
Fun fact: German electric computers of the time used magnetic amplifiers. As far as I know, they were more robust than vacuum tubes. Dunno, if any were used for fire control though.
