Note: Book progress

.
In case someone is wondering: The book progresses at a pace of two pages per day now since I have more free time than before. The book's skeleton is supposed to be finished by October, but there's not a snowball's chance in hell that it'll be published this year.
I strive for a real book, not for a PDF file. My minimum goal is a listing on Amazon and a sold-out production run of at least 1,000 hardcover copies. Everything less would be a failure in my opinion (unless it yields a better job).

The working title so far is "Modern War and Skirmishing". An early chapter is about general issues, all of which are important to the main chapter which is about my concept for a "Skirmish Corridor". That concept is as encompassing and 'different' as Blitzkrieg and Deep Battle were at the time of their genesis: A radically different way of doing land war between great powers, albeit based on lots of sound historical and technological roots.

(I'm obviously full of it, being arrogant enough to attempt such a thing on my own. Well, I'll insist that it's primarily meant to inspire thought. That's probably a necessary antidote to keep the arrogance from spilling over.)

S Ortmann

P.S.: I re-started turning the "S Ortmann" at the end of posts into an e-mail link long ago, but apparently no-one makes use of it. Unlike before I ceased to create the link, I get almost no e-mail messages. Instead, the comments section appears almost crowded in comparison to 2011, 2010. Strange.

  2. I think alot of us find the books we read on amazon. 50% or better of the ones I read come off of it. I like the title. I did post a comment on the election post, but it didn't show the "your comment will be published after approval" so not sure if it when though, if not I will do it again. Been busy lately but made it back today.

link to some info on amazon for self publishing with them. YOu might be more interested in the "CreateSpace" link under the "Self Publishing" subtitle. Yo may already know all of this, but thought I'd send it just encase.

  4. I actually have some contacts for real publishing and the work could certainly benefit from having a native English speaker editor.

  5. A publishing house/company tends to have editors in house who are experts on editing books. They will likely take care of it for you. If you need a native English speaker editor have you thought of asking the administrationat Think Defence?

Nah, your english is fine. Its definately improved since your work from the early years (2004, 2005). I can't wait to get my hands on your book: It'll be right up there with jim storr and meir finkles treatise'. I'm a little bit dissapointed at the title choice, though: Couldn't you have gone for something more flashy? I mean, you are talking about some fairly revolutionary stuff here, right?

P.S: I definately think I'll drop you an e-mail sometime. I'm always coming up with questions and paradoxes, which are usually unrelated to what you cover at this blog.

  7. Tukachevskiy largely developed Deep Battle on his own, though the work of his associates and especially Triandafilov was crucial in making it more understandable to the existing General Staff and lending the theory weight (of supporters). I think you are sufficient to form the theory and get it moving, though others will have to pick it up and run with it to see it applied. From what I've read of your theoretical work you state your case very well and I feel your solution is a fundamentally workable one. I will buy a copy.
