Sure, but it's an implausible scenario. Such things happen on all firing ranges.
I had a comrade who was told to shoot at the 'three' (range target three) - and missed with every shot. After a while, it was learned that the idiot was shooting at the painted number three two metres above the target.
To try to load a weapon the wrong way is really easy as well - especially at night and with almost symmetric (not curved) magazines.
Hah, you think thats bad? I once read about a drunk guy who tried to man a machine gun and bazooka at the same time! (That was in one of max hastings books)
On another note, are there any discussion forums like thinkdefense you still visit on a regular basis?
I'm fine with it. It's tagged [Fun] and this one isn't exactly a documentary either: http://defense-and-freedom.blogspot.de/2014/03/fun-russian-air-assault-troops.html
Can the Russians stage such a photo?

These things simply happen.

Nothing regularly. I deleted a couple bookmarks, this frees up time for better activities.
DeleteYes, these brain misfires can happen to anyone.
ReplyDeleteLuckily they are usually fixed quickly and hopefully the perpetrator learns something.
Alas, when it happens to top leadership it can be quite a while before it is fixed and the chances of anyone learning anything is almost nil.
